Alarge flexible solar canopy consisting of photovoltaic cells is set to cover Dubai’s Expo 2020 site, providing shade to the expected millions of visitors.
The canopy will be a giant step toward sustainable design and energy efficiency.
Architects HOK and Populous have been chosen to design and form the pavilions, which are inspired by the traditional Arab souk.
With Dubai winning Expo 2020, HOK’s master plan design is prepared to accommodate the millions of expected visitors.
The site will span 438 hectares in south west Dubai near the Al Maktoum International Airport and the Jebel Ali Port.
The exhibition will be divided into three zones that extend outward in different directions from the central plaza- a design inspired by the traditional Arabic souk.
Larger pavilions will be positioned at the outer perimeters of each branch, while smaller stands will be stationed toward the centre.
